Arf! Know what I mean?

This is a true story (except for the talking dog).
Numbers, somehow, always manage to trip me up. I don’t know what it is about them and my brain, but they just can’t play nice together. More than once I have caught myself updating the monster blog with the wrong number. I got in the habit of checking to see what number I was on before beginning the update itself, but in that second or two between looking at the post and loading the screen to update, I would get the numbers wrong. Sometimes more than once. Sometimes more than twice.
Go ahead, look right now. I go magically from 457 to 258! I just caught it this morning. I’m hopeless! Why can’t all numbers be 5???
Ok, technically I’ve been back for a few days, but things piled up while I was gone. And then my computer stopped talking to the printer and the scanner, so I had to sort that out. And then there was the sleeping. I liked that part best.
D.C. was fun, even though the zoo hid the capybara from me. They said they were off exhibit because they’re remodeling the elephant house, but I know they were just worried I’d try to steal one. I might have, actually.
Oh, and I sold a lot of stuff.
I’ll be back in the swing of things now, I think. I missed my little doodles.
Sorry I’ve been neglecting you kids, I have been beeeeezy lately getting ready to sell monsters to all the good citizens of Washington, DC who happen upon my table at Crafty Bastards.
And that’s what I’ll be doing this weekend unless the hipsters kick me out for not being ironic enough.
I promise doodles when I return.
I was up way too late last night putting books together. I heard a fine variety of night time noises including one coyote, a nighthawk (aka “goatsucker”) and another bird I have been hearing all summer and still can’t identify.
Incidentally, the Cornell Ornithology site says the Common Nighthawk looks “like a big bat with headlights”. Cooooool!
School starts next week (for my son, that is) which means back to work for me. Or, more accurately, back to the attic. I’m going to DC in October (DO NOT point out how alarmingly soon that is!) to sell my monsters to discerning customers. I have a lot of things to make before then. I hope my doodling doesn’t suffer as a result.
Today it’s not supposed to be obscenely hot so we’re going to the zoo. Ice cream will be eaten and I won’t think about deadlines or wonder why these monsters are standing in a giant petri dish. (Unless it’s a sandbox.)
According to my wall calendar that tells me just how many days have passed already (you know, in case you’re not already feeling like time is flying by at an alarming rate) I should be on monster #197. Eek! I promise to do something about that soon.
Meanwhile, here are some animals I drew for no reason at all.
Cereal won, in case you can’t bear the suspense.
